Does TabCaster upload my recordings anywhere?
No. All recording is processed locally in your browser using the Web MediaRecorder API. The video is saved directly to your device and never sent to any server.
Do I need an account to use TabCaster?
No account is needed to record. An email is only required if you purchase Pro (via Stripe) or restore a Pro license on a new device.
What video formats can I record in?
TabCaster supports WebM (VP9 codec, default) and MP4 (H.264). The extension automatically selects the best supported codec for your browser.
What is the difference between Free and Pro?
Free includes unlimited tab and desktop recording, WebM and MP4 export, microphone audio, pause/resume, manual blur, and auto-blur for emails and passwords. Pro removes the watermark, unlocks 25 Mbps and 50 Mbps video quality, and adds advanced auto-blur for credit cards, SSNs, phone numbers, IP addresses, and API keys. Pro is a one-time $29 payment.
How does the privacy blur work?
Click the Blur button in the popup, then click any element on the page to blur it. The blur is applied using CSS before the screen capture begins, so it is baked into the recorded video. Auto Blur can also scan the page automatically for sensitive data patterns and blur them without any clicks.
Is Pro a subscription?
No. Pro is a one-time $29 payment. You pay once and keep Pro on that Chrome profile forever. Your license is tied to your email and can be restored on any device from the Settings page.
Can I record my microphone?
Yes. Toggle the microphone switch in the popup before starting. Tab audio and microphone audio are both captured and mixed into the recording.
Is there a recording time limit?
TabCaster does not impose a recording time limit. Available memory, storage, and browser behavior can affect very long recordings.
